Supporting Homeless Albertans Affected by COVID-19
Announced yesterday, the Ministry of Community and Social Services will provide $30 million to agencies that provide frontline services to vulnerable populations. This funding will be administered by Family and Community Support Services (FCSS).
This funding is part of the $60 million Social Services emergency funding announced last week by the provincial government in which $25 million will support homeless shelters to assist them with responding to the requirements for social distancing, isolation, staffing and sanitation-related to COVID-19. An additional $5 million will be allocated to women’s emergency shelters. The other $30 million will be administered through the FCSS and is dedicated to assisting community-based organizations in responding to the needs of vulnerable Albertans who need to self-isolate and other related challenges due to COVID-19.
Applicants do not need to be existing FCSS partners. Funding criteria and forms for the emergency funding to charities, nonprofits, and civil society organizations are posted online.
