Nominate a Calgary Nonprofit Leader for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal

The Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal program recognizes outstanding service from Albertans who have dedicated themselves to the community. CCVO is grateful to be able to recognize and present the Medal to 10 Calgary community leaders. The Medal will be awarded to 7,000 Albertans throughout 2022 in recognition of significant contributions to the province.

Nonprofits are essential to the health and vibrancy of our communities – they are incredibly diverse and enrich Alberta’s social and cultural experience through a variety of subsectors, including: arts and culture, sports and recreation, religion, social services, development and housing, environment, education and research, health, and advocacy among others. Dedicated leaders – staff, board members, volunteers – work daily to make the province a better place. We invite nominations from those in Calgary & Area who would like to recognize one of these leaders for their contributions to the nonprofit sector and Calgary's communities. This includes Calgary, Airdrie, Chestermere, Cochrane, High River, Okotoks, and Strathmore.

Eligibility
A nominee must:

  • be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident with a tangible link to Alberta at the time the medal is granted

  • have made a significant contribution to Canada, Alberta, or to a particular Alberta region or community

  • have been alive on February 6, 2022, the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty's accession to the throne


The following guidelines have been developed to provide guidance in selecting deserving candidates:

  • The awarding of the medal should focus on the achievements of persons who have helped to build the Alberta of today;

  • Through their achievements and sustained contribution, the candidates have distinguished themselves from others volunteering/employed in the same field;

  • Recipients should be highly respected individuals within their community. The medal recipient’s names will be part of the public record.

  • The medal is to be awarded to individuals only, not to groups or couples;

  • Self-nominations are not permitted.

  • Care should be taken to avoid any perception of conflict of interest.

  • Nominators should not submit the names of their spouse, partner, family members, political associates or close friends.


Some individuals who have already demonstrated their contribution to the province, such as MLAs, Mayors and Reeves, Indigenous leaders, as well as members of the Alberta Order of Excellence are designated recipients of the medal and shall not be nominated through this avenue.


Nominations are now closed.
A reception will be held in Calgary in December to honour award recipients.
