Mayor of Calgary Announces Inaugural Chinook Blast to Support Arts and Nonprofit Sectors

On July 27, Mayor Naheed Nenshi announced that Calgary would be hosting the first Chinook Blast, a six-week long culture and arts festival which will run from January to February.

This festival is meant to boost tourism, and provide support and opportunity for the arts and culture sector, including nonprofits. Various partner organizations will host the event, including Calgary Arts Development and Tourism Calgary.

The mayor has recognized the impacts of COVID-19 on arts and tourism organizations, and stated that Chinook Blast will help support local organizations and boost tourism during the colder months.

Planning for Chinook Blast is still underway, and the City of Calgary is still looking for partners and securing provincial and federal funding. Adjustments to the events will be made according to public health orders to ensure it is a safe experience for all.
